Why Dry Eye Treatment is Important
Dry eyes can cause itching, burning, and irritation. But untreated, they can be so much worse than a daily inconvenience.
Your eyes need regular moisture and lubrication. Without them, you could be at risk for infections, inflammation, and permanent vision problems. We want to help.
Tears play a vital role in eye health by flushing away bacteria and debris that can cause infection. That infection in turn can cause corneal ulcers, leading to permanent damage to the eyes and vision loss. Abrasion due to chronic dry eyes results in inflammation and damage to the cornea, resulting in corneal scarring leading to vision loss.
Tears also create a film over the eye that is vitally important for proper light refraction. Without it, and with the uneven surface of the cornea caused by dryness, you might also experience blurred vision.
About Dry Eye Treatment
There are several treatments we can prescribe to help manage the symptoms and effects of dry eyes, helping to prevent irreparable harm to your vision.
For minor cases of dry eyes, you may be regularly overexposed to harsh lights like direct sunlight and computer screens, dehydrated, or suffering from a dry environment. Hydration, screen breaks, humidifiers, and warm compresses can help mitigate some of the symptoms of dry eyes in these cases.
For more severe cases of dry eyes, we’ll explore prescription eye drops and other medications that will help your eyes produce the tears they need. We can also explore procedures to reduce corneal scarring and repair or stimulate your tear ducts.
